Background
It is the responsibility of all Clubs to foster a positive environment where their members can learn about photography, develop their photographic skills and inspiration, and enjoy a sense of belonging within the broader photographic community.
This includes quickly and firmly addressing any unethical or illegal practices such as presenting images made by others as one’s own (plagiarisation), failing to declare conflicts of interest, providing false information or using club resources for personal gain.
To assist clubs to carry out their responsibilities, the Federation of Camera Clubs (NSW) has produced this Code of Conduct for clubs to adopt or adapt to suit their circumstances.
Committee member responsibilities
Committee members will:
- Promote a positive environment where club members can learn photography, develop their
skills and enjoy a sense of belonging within the broader photographic community - Ensure each club member’s rights and individual worth are respected
- Ensure all club activities, including photographic competitions, are carried out fairly and
transparently - Declare conflicts of interest, including when there is, or appears to be, a conflict between the
individual’s personal, family or financial interests and their committee responsibilities - Promote this Code to all members, including discussing it at the first club meeting of each year
and publishing it on the club website - Have a procedure where club members or the public can make complaints in confidence
- Have a dispute resolution process to address complaints in an impartial and timely fashion.
Member responsibilities
Club members will: - Respect other members and their photographic work
- Treat all photographic subjects, especially children, vulnerable people and nature with respect
- Comply with photographic competition rules. This includes only presenting images which are
totally your own work; or if the image is not totally your own work, you must inform the
competition organiser or club committee before entering the image into a competition - Act in ways that bring credit to the club and the amateur photographic movement.
Breaches of this Code may result in a member being counselled, images being disqualified and/or
awards and prizes being rescinded. Repeat offenders may banned from competition or from the club
for a period of time as determined by the committee.
