Last call for FCC Judging Course, Sydney

Could Club Presidents and Secretaries please pass this information on to their members?

The final deadline for the next FCC judging course is Friday 10 February 2023.

The course is for people wanting to know what judges look for in a winning photograph, or who would like to become a photographic judge.

Day 1, called “What Judges Look For”, focusses on what photographers need in a winning photograph for Club, NSW, national and international competitions.  This one-day course is open to all photographers including beginners and costs $80.

People interested in becoming an FCC judge need to attend Day 1 and Day 2.  Day 2, called “What Judges Do”, concentrates on the practicalities of judging and scoring for Club, regional and state competitions.  The two-day course costs a total of $100.

Presenters include two internationally-recognised photographers and judges. Keynote presenter, Bill Bachman, has more than 35 years’ experience as a professional photographer including photographing five Winter Olympic Games and being Australian Geographic Photographer of the Year in 1995. He was national coordinator of the Judge Development and Training program with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and was a judge of the 2022 Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize.

The second internationally-awarded presenter is Meg Hewitt. Her international awards include a gold medal from the Tokyo International Foto Competition and a silver medal from the Prix de la Photographie, Paris.  She was fringe artist of the year at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale and is a member of the Australian photo collective Oculi and the international street photography collective Up.  Meg is also an experienced judge, most recently for the 2022 Head On Awards.

The course takes place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February, 2023 at Rydges Parramatta. The FCC plans to run a similar course in regional NSW later in 2023 and in future years.
